Why do I get locked out of my MIVA Merchant admin section?

The following article explains why you get locked out of your MIVA Merchant Admin section and what can be done to fix it and prevent it from happening. To protect customers, MIVA Merchant is set by default to lockout the Admin section for 15 minutes if the login fails 3 times in a row. The lockout is a required feature of MIVA Merchant, so if you are prone to mistyping your password, you may wish to increase the number of allowable attempts. If you are still having trouble logging in, it is recommended to rename the admin.mvc file for the duration of the lockout to ensure no one else can attempt to login. You can change these settings in the Admin section.

To change the lockout settings, please follow these steps:

  1. Log into the MIVA Merchant Admin section located at http://store.domainname.com/merchant2/admin.mvc. If this address does not work, you may need to use http://domainname.com/merchant2/admin.mvc. Older MIVA Merchant stores were configured with this address..
  2. Click Domain Settings.
  3. Click Timeouts from the menu.
  4. Adjust the settings to your liking:
    • Administration Session Timeout: enter the amount of time (in minutes) before the MIVA Merchant admin section will automatically timeout
    • Failed Login Lockout Time: enter the amount of time (in minutes) that the MIVA Merchant Admin section will be locked out if the specified number of login failures occurs
    • Failed Login Attempts Allowed: enter the number of login failure attempts allowed before the MIVA Merchant Admin section is locked out
  5. Click Update.
